kapitan_bomba - lettuce was an example, to show very informal version of a name for sth :P and i disagree with you that "wariaty" is only for yens. when i'm abroad with friends we always call currency in that way, no matter where we are. polish vball players didn't invent it :P

pearl - no, it's not about Japanese currency. it's popular for polish people to call currency from different countries (all countries) by one universal word. so you don't say dollars, pounds, yens or złoty just "wariaty" ( 500 wariatów because endings are different in polish language) :D it's kind of slang i would say like for example money is lettuce
